Red was a central colour in the clubs original design, it was important to me to maintain that brand unity. To contrast such bold colours, I selected a dark blue; black would be too dull but the blue was a good compromise. We briefly toyed with which colour to be the shirts focus, but decided red was overtly eye-catching. Another consequences having red 'below' was the wearer becoming 'bottom-heavy,' another reason for the finaliased design.  

I preferred to keep the red to the torso; otherwise, the wearer would be ‘bottom heavy.’
